Personal Plastic Surgery's Tummy Tuck Surgery

A healthy diet, regular exercise, and a positive lifestyle are essential for a tight, flat abdomen. Unfortunately, sometimes excess fat will not go away, no matter how many sit-ups or crunches you do or how many low-calorie salads you eat.

An abdominoplasty—or “tummy tuck”—is a cosmetic surgery procedure that makes your stomach smaller and firmer. The procedure involves removing excess skin and fat from the middle and lower parts of your abdomen to tighten the muscle and connective tissue of the abdominal wall. People with loose or sagging flesh that develops after pregnancy or major weight loss often seek this type of surgery to achieve a more athletic, firm, and attractive look.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Sanjay Lalla, has over three decades of experience performing cosmetic procedures. He performs tummy tuck procedures to help patients achieve their desired physical proportions and feel better about themselves.

Dr. Sanjay Lalla, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Your decision to have plastic surgery is a personal one, and the most important factor in the success of your surgery will be the doctor you choose. At Personal Plastic Surgery, we understand that you are looking for a plastic surgeon who will listen to you and provide a safe, comfortable environment. Dr. Lalla and his staff will work with you to develop a highly personal and individualized treatment plan. Dr. Lalla and his staff speak English, Spanish, and Hindi.

Different Types of Tummy Tucks

Dr. Lalla understands that each patient has a unique set of desired outcomes, which is why he and his team customize each abdominoplasty to accommodate a person’s needs. Our surgical tummy tuck offerings include:

Complete Tummy Tuck

In a complete abdominoplasty, Dr. Lalla will make a hip-to-hip incision just above the pubic area. He will then tighten the muscles with sutures and trim away excess muscle and fat. Dr. Lalla may then use liposuction to smooth the transition areas between the abdomen and the flanks.

Partial Tummy Tuck

A partial abdominoplasty involves a smaller incision, and the abdominal skin is not completely detached from the underlying tissue. This tummy tuck surgery is less extensive and invasive than a complete abdominoplasty.

Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended abdominoplasty involves Dr. Lalla performing a complete tummy tuck in conjunction with a lateral thigh lift. The addition of a lateral thigh lift helps shape the flanks and can smooth out the contours of the upper thigh.

High Lateral Tension Tummy Tuck

In this new procedure, Dr. Lalla tightens abdominal muscles both vertically—as in a standard abdominoplasty—and horizontally. Results include a flatter abdomen and a more defined waistline.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

A circumferential abdominoplasty, also called a belt lipectomy or body lift, combines an extended abdominoplasty with a buttock lift. The incision completely circles the body like a belt. This cosmetic plastic surgery is most appropriate for individuals who have experienced massive weight loss and want to remove excess skin.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini abdominoplasty treats baggy skin hanging from the lower stomach, near the navel. By removing excess skin and fat from this area, patients can improve body contours and reduce laxity in their lower abdomen.

Who Could Benefit From a Tummy Tuck?

Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are in good physical condition but have pockets of fat or loose skin that are not responding to diet and exercise. Older people whose skin has lost elasticity could also benefit from a tummy tuck. We recommend delaying your procedure until after any substantial weight loss because the skin in your abdominal area typically loosens during these changes.

Tummy tuck surgeries can also be useful for women who have developed excess skin and stretched muscles from pregnancy and childbirth. Typically, results will diminish with pregnancy, so we advise patients who plan to become pregnant to consider postponing their abdominoplasty procedure until they are no longer having children.

TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURES OVERVIEW

Every procedure with Dr. Lalla begins with a one-on-one consultation appointment, so we can understand your expectations and goals. Additionally, we provide a safe space for patients to express any concerns and ask questions about the procedure. After considering all factors, Dr. Lalla will provide a surgical treatment plan that best fits your needs.

During the procedure, you will undergo either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Dr. Lalla will then make a horizontal incision between the pubic hairline and the belly button. Depending on the amount of excess skin the shape and size of the incision may vary. Dr. Lalla will repair the underlying weakened abdominal muscles and pull down the upper abdominal skin, trimming any excess skin and suturing the incision. The results are a flatter, more proportional abdomen.

Recovery times differ depending on the tummy tuck procedure. Most patients will wear an abdominal binder for about six weeks to support the abdomen and avoid any fluid buildups. Patients must refrain from vigorous physical activity for at least six weeks. The procedure does produce a permanent scar, but its size depends on the extent of the surgery. Dr. Lalla and Personal Plastic Surgery’s attentive team will walk you through the steps necessary for a complete and efficient recovery.
